Job Overview
We are seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Senior Customs Compliance Officer to join our growing operations in Buchanan. This critical role is designed for a professional who understands the complexities of international maritime law, customs regulations, and trade compliance within the West African context. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all imports and exports conducted by Maersk Liberia adhere strictly to national and international regulatory frameworks. This position involves high-level oversight of documentation, risk assessment of shipments, and acting as a primary liaison with government customs authorities. As we expand our footprint in Liberia, this role will play a pivotal part in mitigating legal risks and optimizing the flow of goods through our logistics network.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and audit all customs documentation to ensure 100% accuracy and compliance with Liberian customs laws.
- Liaise with government agencies and customs officials to resolve complex regulatory issues and facilitate smooth cargo clearance.
- Conduct regular internal audits of trade compliance processes to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Develop and implement robust compliance protocols to prevent fraudulent activities and ensure ethical trade practices.
- Provide expert guidance to the logistics and operations teams regarding changing international trade regulations.
- Monitor global trade trends and regulatory updates that may impact Maersk’s operations in the region.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of international shipping regulations and customs procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical thinking capabilities.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with government officials and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in logistics management software and advanced Excel.
- In-depth understanding of Incoterms and maritime law.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Logistics, Law, or a related field is mandatory. Professional certifications in Customs Brokerage or Supply Chain Management are highly preferred.
Experience
Candidates must possess at least 5 to 7 years of direct experience in customs compliance, maritime logistics, or international trade law. Proven experience working within the African logistics sector is a significant advantage.
Salary
The offered salary for this position ranges from 45,000 to 65,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s expertise and experience level.
