Job Overview

The Agronomy Specialist will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and monitoring agronomic strategies that optimize crop production for Olam’s farms in the Zwedru region. Reporting to the Crop Production Manager, the specialist will collaborate with local farmers, research institutions, and internal teams to introduce best‑practice agronomy techniques, conduct field trials, and ensure compliance with Olam’s sustainability standards. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement agronomic plans that increase yield, improve soil health, and reduce input costs for cocoa and coffee farms.
• Conduct regular field assessments, soil sampling, and pest‑disease scouting to provide actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with local extension services and research partners to introduce climate‑smart agriculture technologies.
• Train and mentor smallholder farmers on best‑practice planting, fertilization, irrigation, and harvest techniques.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators such as yield per hectare, input efficiency, and sustainability metrics.
• Ensure compliance with Olam’s Sustainable Agriculture Code and local regulatory requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, data analyses, and presentations for senior management and stakeholder meetings.
• Support the development of pilot projects for new crop varieties and innovative farming methods.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of agronomy principles, especially for tropical crops like cocoa, coffee, and rubber.
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and use of agronomic software tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective farmer engagement.
• Ability to work independently in remote field conditions and adapt to changing environments.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications or a Master’s degree in sustainable agriculture, plant science, or a related field are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience in agronomic advisory roles, preferably within West African agricultural contexts. Experience working with smallholder farmer groups, conducting field trials, and implementing sustainability initiatives will be considered a strong asset.

Salary
