Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Hydrological Modeling Specialist to join our specialized research team in Buchanan. This role is critical for our mission to provide accurate predictive data for regional water management projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, calibrating, and maintaining complex mathematical models that simulate the movement of water through various environmental systems. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sophisticated numerical models to simulate surface and groundwater flow patterns.
- Analyze large datasets collected from field sensors, rain gauges, and satellite imagery.
- Conduct site visits to monitor river levels, soil moisture, and groundwater quality in various terrains.
- Collaborate with urban planners to design flood mitigation infrastructure based on predictive modeling.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government officials and international donors.
- Calibrate hydrological models using historical weather data and real-time monitoring inputs.
- Assess the impact of land-use changes on local watershed health and water availability.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in hydrological modeling software such as HEC-RAS, MODFLOW, or SWAT.
- Strong mathematical and statistical analysis capabilities for interpreting complex environmental data.
- Expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial data visualization and mapping.
- Excellent technical writing skills for producing high-level scientific documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in remote field locations and diverse team environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills related to environmental engineering and fluid dynamics.
Education
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field. A PhD in a specialized branch of Earth Sciences is highly preferred. Professional certification in GIS or specialized modeling software is an added advantage.
Experience
Applicants should have at least 5 years of professional experience in hydrological modeling or water resource engineering. Proven experience in working with tropical river systems or coastal groundwater management is highly desirable. Experience in data-driven environmental impact assessments is essential for this role.
Salary
The offered salary for this position ranges from 45,000 SSP to 65,000 SSP per month, depending on the candidate’s expertise and technical proficiency. This is a competitive package within the environmental sector in the region.
