Job Overview

This role leads the coordination of forest carbon projects in Liberia’s diverse ecosystems, focusing on carbon credit development, reforestation initiatives, and stakeholder collaboration. The position is based in Sinoe City, a key hub for environmental conservation efforts in the region. The role supports WRI’s mission to combat climate change through sustainable forest management while aligning with Liberia’s National Climate Action Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement forest carbon project frameworks compliant with international standards (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard).
  • Coordinate with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to ensure project alignment with regional conservation goals.
  • Conduct field assessments to monitor carbon sequestration potential and biodiversity impact.
  • Prepare technical reports, project proposals, and carbon credit documentation for certification bodies.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams for multi-year conservation initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in carbon accounting methodologies and forest inventory techniques.
  • Proven experience in project management for environmental conservation programs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with demonstrated success in community-based conservation.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and environmental data analysis tools.
  • Fluency in both English and Liberian languages (e.g., Kpelle, Bassa) preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Geography, or related field. Master’s Degree in Climate Science or Sustainable Development is an asset.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in environmental project coordination, with a focus on carbon offset programs, reforestation, or ecosystem restoration. Prior work in West African conservation contexts is highly advantageous.

Salary

1,500,000 – 2,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and project impact.
