Job Overview
The Cultural Heritage Preservation Specialist will lead efforts to document, protect, and promote Liberia’s cultural heritage in Lofa City. This position requires collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and international stakeholders to implement UNESCO’s global standards for heritage conservation. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to identify and document cultural heritage sites, artifacts, and practices.
- Develop and implement preservation plans for at-risk heritage assets.
- Facilitate community workshops to raise awareness about cultural heritage protection.
- Collaborate with local authorities to enforce heritage conservation policies.
- Prepare reports and presentations for UNESCO and partner organizations.
- Coordinate with international experts for technical support and training.
Required Skills
- Expertise in cultural heritage documentation and GIS mapping.
- Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Knowledge of international heritage conservation frameworks (e.g., UNESCO World Heritage Convention).
- Ability to work independently in remote or challenging environments.
- Proficiency in grant writing and stakeholder engagement.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Cultural Heritage Management.
- Master’s Degree preferred but not mandatory.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage preservation, preferably in West Africa.
- Proven track record in community-based conservation projects.
Salary
1,500,000 – 2,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
