Job Overview

The Data Center Operations Engineer will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of Microsoft’s Harper data center facilities. This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and security of server hardware, networking equipment, and supporting infrastructure. The engineer will work closely with global teams to implement best practices, monitor system health, and respond to incidents with rapid, effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot server hardware, storage arrays, and networking equipment.
• Implement and enforce security policies, including access controls and vulnerability remediation.
• Coordinate with global support teams to resolve escalated incidents and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Manage capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource allocation to meet service level agreements.
• Document operational procedures, incident reports, and configuration changes.
• Participate in on‑call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical infrastructure.
• Lead hardware refresh cycles and oversee installation of new equipment.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of server hardware platforms (Dell, HPE, Cisco UCS).
• Proficiency with networking protocols, routing, switching, and firewalls.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, or Azure Stack).
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as System Center Operations Manager or Azure Monitor.
• Solid understanding of ITIL processes and incident management.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Experience

Candidates must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience managing data center operations in a large‑scale environment.
