Job Overview
The Senior Network Optimization Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of network performance across MTN Liberia’s radio access and core network. Reporting to the Head of Network Operations, the incumbent will analyze traffic patterns, identify bottlenecks, and develop optimization strategies that enhance capacity, reduce latency, and improve overall Quality of Service (QoS). This role requires close collaboration with radio planning, engineering, and field teams to ensure that optimization initiatives align with business objectives and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting MTN Liberia’s growth strategy, ensuring that the network can handle increasing data demand while maintaining high reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive network performance assessments using drive‑test tools, KPI dashboards, and traffic analysis.
- Develop and implement optimization plans for radio access, backhaul, and core network elements.
- Collaborate with radio planning engineers to fine‑tune antenna parameters, frequency allocations, and handover configurations.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network incidents, providing root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Lead capacity planning initiatives to anticipate future demand and recommend infrastructure upgrades.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to senior management and cross‑functional teams.
- Ensure compliance with national telecom regulations and MTN Group standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide knowledge transfer on best practices in network optimization.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance tools (e.g., TEMS, NEMO, NetAct).
- In‑depth knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, and core network architectures.
- Experience with radio frequency (RF) planning and optimization techniques.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑departmental collaboration.
- Project management experience, including timeline and resource coordination.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NPO, or Ericsson Certified Network Optimization Engineer are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in network optimization within a mobile telecommunications environment. Prior exposure to both LTE and emerging 5G technologies, as well as a proven track record of delivering measurable performance improvements, is essential.
Salary
