My experience at Apex for Excellence (AFE) Consulting was a valuable opportunity to turn my academic knowledge into practical experience in consulting, business strategy, monitoring and evaluation, and organizational development. I supported assignments involving research, data analysis, performance tracking, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, strategic planning, and organizational improvement. This experience helped me better understand how organizations use evidence and strategy to make informed decisions and improve performance. One of the highlights of my internship was serving as a Project Lead for the Gazelles Project, implemented by AFE Consulting in partnership with ESP Rwanda. Over a nine-week engagement, I helped lead a team working with seven SMEs, conducting needs assessments to understand their individual business challenges, operational gaps, management needs, and growth opportunities. Based on these findings, we supported the development and implementation of targeted interventions aimed at strengthening their businesses and improving their capacity for sustainable growth. Working directly with entrepreneurs was particularly meaningful because it taught me that effective consulting begins with listening, understanding, and building trust before proposing solutions. The experience strengthened my leadership, project coordination, analytical thinking, communication, stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and SME development skills and reinforced my passion for helping organizations and entrepreneurs turn challenges into opportunities for growth and impact.

As a Corporate Facilitator with Beyond Success Rwanda, I had the opportunity to work with individuals and organizations to strengthen their capacity in leadership, personal development, teamwork, communication, and professional effectiveness. My role involved facilitating interactive learning sessions, engaging participants in meaningful discussions, and creating practical learning experiences that encouraged people to reflect, learn, and apply new ideas to their personal and professional lives. Beyond simply delivering content, I focused on making learning practical, relatable, and engaging. I used storytelling, discussions, activities, reflection, and real-life examples to help participants connect concepts with their everyday experiences and workplace challenges. This experience strengthened my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, manage diverse audiences, facilitate constructive conversations, and create environments where people feel comfortable contributing. Working as a facilitator also deepened my understanding of people development and organizational leadership. I learned how different personalities, experiences, and perspectives influence teamwork and performance, and how effective facilitation can help individuals recognize their strengths and become more intentional about their growth. The experience strengthened my public speaking, leadership, training, communication, emotional intelligence, stakeholder engagement, and group facilitation skills, while reinforcing my passion for developing people and helping organizations build stronger, more capable teams.

As a Fund Management Intern at the Business Development Fund (BDF) Rwanda, I gained practical exposure to financial services, SME financing, credit risk management, and the processes involved in supporting businesses through access to finance. Working within the Fund Management Department gave me an opportunity to understand how financial institutions assess business financing needs while balancing development objectives with responsible risk management. A key area of my work involved supporting the Partial Credit Guarantee (PCG) process, where I contributed to reviewing and analyzing guarantee requests submitted by financial institutions on behalf of businesses. I supported aspects of the appraisal process, document review, request analysis, and assessment of business and financial information to help determine the viability and suitability of applications. This experience gave me valuable insight into the relationship between finance, entrepreneurship, risk, and SME development, particularly the challenges businesses face in accessing appropriate financing. It also strengthened my ability to work with financial information, analyze business cases, pay attention to detail, and approach decisions from both a commercial and developmental perspective. My internship at BDF strengthened my financial analysis, research, critical thinking, problem-solving, professional communication, and risk assessment skills, while giving me a practical understanding of how development finance can contribute to entrepreneurship, enterprise growth, and economic development in Rwanda.

As Founder and Executive Director of The Light Global Institute (TLGI), I lead the strategic direction and day-to-day development of a youth-focused organization committed to leadership development, mentorship, entrepreneurship, personal development, and capacity building for young people. I have been responsible for translating the organization’s vision into practical programs, initiatives, and partnerships that create opportunities for young people to develop their potential and leadership capacity. My role has involved strategic planning, program design and implementation, stakeholder engagement, team coordination, event management, communications, facilitation, and monitoring of organizational activities. I have designed and led initiatives including structured mentorship programs, leadership development activities, masterclasses, conferences, and community-based engagements, working with diverse participants and stakeholders. Through TLGI, I have developed strong experience in leading projects from concept to execution, coordinating people and resources, identifying opportunities for organizational growth, and communicating with partners, participants, and other stakeholders. I have also facilitated leadership and personal development sessions, strengthening my ability to communicate complex ideas, engage diverse audiences, and create practical learning experiences. Building TLGI from the ground up has strengthened my entrepreneurial leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving, project management, stakeholder management, public speaking, and organizational development skills. The experience has given me practical insight into leading an organization, managing competing priorities, and turning ideas into structured initiatives with measurable social and developmental value.
