Job Overview
The Water Treatment Plant Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day operations of Veolia’s newly commissioned water treatment facility in Greenville, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality potable water to the surrounding communities. This role is pivotal in overseeing plant performance, compliance with national and international water quality standards, and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives. Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, the manager will coordinate with engineering, maintenance, quality assurance, and community liaison teams to optimize processes, manage resources, and uphold Veolia’s reputation for excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of plant operations, including intake, treatment, disinfection, and distribution.
- Ensure compliance with Liberian Environmental Protection Agency (LEPA) regulations and WHO drinking water guidelines.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for water quality, production volume, and energy consumption.
- Lead a team of 30+ operators, technicians, and support staff, providing coaching, performance reviews, and professional development.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with the Maintenance Department to minimize downtime.
- Manage inventory of chemicals, spare parts, and consumables, optimizing cost‑effectiveness.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Implement continuous improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Engage with local community leaders and NGOs to address water access concerns and promote water conservation.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, such as equipment failures or contamination events, ensuring rapid corrective actions.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes (coagulation, flocculation, filtration, chlorination, UV disinfection).
- Proficiency in SCADA systems and plant monitoring software.
- Excellent leadership and team‑building abilities.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret water quality data and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with regulators, stakeholders, and community members.
- Budget management and cost‑control expertise.
- Commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Water Operator (CWO) or Six Sigma Green Belt are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in water treatment plant operations, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience working in West African or similar emerging market environments is preferred.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. A performance‑based bonus structure and comprehensive benefits package are included.
